Buraioli Irene

Irene Buraioli received her bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering at the University of Bologna and her master’s degree with an emphasis on Bioelectronics at the Politecnico di Torino. In September 2021, she got her Ph.D. in Bioengineering and Medical-Surgical sciences at Politecnico with the University of Turin. She is a post-doc researcher at electronic Life-Oriented iNtelligent Systems (eLiONS) laboratory, which she joined in 2016 as a master’s thesis student.

Her research aims to investigate, design and develop innovative devices for subjects’ state of health monitoring, from cardiovascular to the psychophysical field. Her activities range from sensor engineering and readout electronics to validation in the clinical environment through signal processing, firmware, and hardware layout.

Her work includes collaborations with “Città della Salute e della Scienza” Torino Hospital, internal medicine Department. In particular, one of her study born as an answer to an explicit medical request to have an affordable but reliable Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV) estimator. For this, different sensors have been investigated, both commercial (from photoplethysmography to applanation tonometry) and experimental. She is also collaborating with the Nanochemie Group of “Supramolecular Science and Engineering Institute” in Strasbourg, where she spent her six months visiting period developing an innovative pressure sensor based on graphene.
