Umberto Garlando received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electronic engineering, at Politecnico di Torino, in 2013 and 2015, respectively. From 2016 to 2019, he pursued a Ph.D. in electronic engineering at the VLSILab of Politecnico di Torino, working on CAD and EDA tools for FCN (Field coupled nanocomputing). He worked on the development of the ToPoliNano framework, focusing on the simulation part. In 2020, he joined the eLiONS (electronic Life Oriented iNtelligent Systems) group as a research associate, where he works in a fast-growing field such as smart systems for agri-food technology. He is currently an assistant professor at Politecnico di Torino. His main interests are IoT devices for precision agriculture, low power systems, energy harvesting solutions, plant health monitoring exploiting impedance measurements, and edge machine learning. He is following two research projects funded by Regione Piemonte and supervising the research group’s AgriTech activities.
